Interior clean of marks except the word TWO written beneath first page of table of contents and verso of rear flyleaf. pp. 363-374 have been bumped and crumpled at extreme bottom of margin, not effecting text, but causing nearly identical rips on each of those pages. Frontispeice and gaurd tissue somewhat age toned. Someshelfware. Overall VERY GOOD condition.
Garland alternated between skeptic and believer. He explores this in his fiction, The Tyranny of the Dark, wherein Viola Lambert is controlled and exploited by unseen forces; the scientist, Dr Serviss, arrives to save her from the occult. This is Garland's major shift into supernatural fiction.
