This cute French-language French grammar book was sold “chez P. Maggi” on New Street in York in the 1820s. Not much is known about Monsieur Maggi, but he was a teacher of modern languages, likely at the University of York and he published another French grammar, titled “The French Master; or Elementary grammar…” in 1823. This was published in London by Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, and sold in the same W. Alexander and Sons in York as the Clef de la grammaire Française.
