BOSWELL, James. The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides with Samuel Johnson with Samuel Johnson LL. D. Sixth Edition Revised and Corrected. London: Printed for T. Cadell and W. Davies, Strand, 1813.

(220 x 135 mm) pp. 460. Full calf binding. Marbled endpapers and marbled edges. Frontispiece. Historic repair to hinge. Corners bumped.

The publishers, Cadell & Davies, were a short-lived publishing company in London, established in 1793. Thomas passed the bookselling and publishing business to his son, Thomas, and his apprentice, William Davies, creating Cadell and Davies, which was in operation until 1819, with the death of Davies signalling the death of the venture. Cadell continued publishing until his death in 1836.

Cadell and Davies were responsible for the 4th to 8th editions of James Boswell's Life of Johnson and for early editions of the Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides, represented here.
