Edward Slow. The Wiltshire Moonraker's Edition of West Countrie Rhymes. Salisbury: R. R. Edwards [1903]

(18.5 x 12.5 cm) pp. 372, bound as usual with Glossary of Wiltshire Dialect Words, pp. 16. Photographic frontispeice, and full page engraving, with additional engravings throughout embellishing the text. Bound in blue publisher's cloth with title and author in gilt on covers and spine. Armorial bookplate of Lady Emma Marjory Thynne, styled Emma Northhampton (married to William Bingham Compton, 6th Marquess of Northampton, 1921-1942). Some shelfware and bumping to extremites, some foxing mostly on foredge but within text as well. Overall VERY GOOD condition.

Written entirely in the 'Old Country dialect' of Wiltshire, the poems of this book preserves the folklore and worldview of the West Country in the 19th century, reprinted at the turn of the 20th, with a glossary to aid those of us unfamiliar with the local terms and phonetic spelling. This copy was owned by Lady Emma Marjory Thynne, styed Emma Northhampton upon her marriage to the 6th Marquess of  Northhampton. Emma  held the seat of County Councillor for Wiltshire between 1946 and 1951.
